Adapted Yoga is an unique program designed to empower students with a variety of physical, cognitive or behavioural needs by celebrating their particular abilities and talents. Adapted yoga appeals to students looking for a safe, accessible and respectful environment to experience the multiple benefits of a regular yoga and mindfulness practice.
Rather than fitting and forcing a student’s body into a particular yoga pose or shape, traditional yoga poses are tailored to each student’s unique physical body. Coupled with breathing, props such as blankets, chairs, yoga straps and blocks are used to modify postures to meet different abilities and meet sensory needs. Many yoga poses can be modified to be practiced in a chair or wheelchair.
The studio is fully wheelchair accessible. Community aides and service dogs are welcome to attend. Please bring a yoga mat and all ambulatory and visual supports.
Adapted Yoga for Kids (6-12 years)
Enhance strength, flexibility, focus and self awareness through this age appropriate play-based yoga and mindfulness class for kids. Students will practice animal poses, learn fun yoga sequences, engage in storytelling, move to music and and play with fun yoga props.
Adapted Yoga for Youth (13-19 years)
Adapted Yoga for Youth is based upon the same principles as Adapted Yoga for Kids. Students are encouraged to have fun while exploring yoga poses, sequences, storytelling, music and yoga props. Students will learn self-regulating techniques to help manage stress and relieve anxiety. Mindfulness and heartfulness practice, breath work and guided relaxation will be explored as well.
Note: We will attempt to offer both programs depending upon enrolment. We require a minimum of six students in each age group to offer both classes.
To enrol please visit the Registered Programs page and choose the appropriate class. Once registered we will send you a detailed intake form. If you have any questions about the content of the program you may contact Yoga Teacher Carrie Zales at email@example.com.
